Awesome Fried Empanadas

These awesome empanadas are great as an appetizer or for dinner.
Ingredients
- Pastry:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/3 cup milk
- Filling:
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/8 tsp fresh ground black pepper
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp hot salsa
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 1/2 tbsp chili powder
- Serve with: Ranch dressing

Heat the oil in your deep oil fryer to 350 degrees. Saute the onion in butter on low heat until it is starting to brown. Add the ground beef and cook on low till browned. Now add the salsa, chili powder, salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, until flavors blend well. Set aside. Pastry: Mix the flour, salt, baking powder, butter and milk. Knead, as for biscuits, until well mixed. Now, roll out the dough paper thin. Cut the dough in large circles (I use a wide mouth quart jar for this). Place a spoonful of the meat mixture on the pastry and fold it over. Pinch the edges together with a crimping motion (this will make a fluted edge like the edge of a pie crust), then, press the edges through the crimped area with a fork. By now, your oil should be hot. Fry rapidly in deep oil until golden brown. Serve hot with ranch dressing.
