Method
Thaw pastry sheets in refrigerator overnight, or 40 minutes at room temperature. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Whisk egg with water in a small bowl and set aside. Unfold pastry sheet on a lightly floured cutting board. Spread apple butter evenly over pastry, leaving a 1-inch edge on one of the shorter sides. Brush some egg wash on the unspread edge. Lay ham on top of apple butter, leaving the one edge clear. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and green onion. Roll like a jelly roll, starting with the short side that is spread with apple butter, to the unspread edge. With a sharp knife, cut into about 20, 1/2-inch slices. Place cut side down on parchment-lined baking sheets; brush with egg glaze. Bake about 15 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven, cool slightly, and serve warm.
Notes: You may use spiced apple butter or apple chutney for a spicy variation. Tasty, sweet, salty and smokey, these Cheddar Ham and Apple Butter Spirals are also delicious with a salad for a light meal. Perfect for fall entertaining.
Number of Servings: 4-6
