Sausage Bread

Spiral slices of fresh cooked bread stuffed with Italian sausage, onions, peppers and provolone cheese.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed and risen
  • 3 hot or mild Italian sausage links, casings removed, or 1 1/2 cups bulk Italian sausage
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced green pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated aged provolone cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a frying pan, cook sausage until brown. Add onion and green pepper then heat until cooked through. Pat out bread dough, add cooked mixture and cheese to one side of dough. Roll dough and seal the seam. Cook 15 minutes, remove form heat, and rub with butter. Sprinkle with garlic salt then return to oven to bake another 15 minutes. Let cool and cut into slices.

 

Notes: Optional garnishes; black olives, peppers, onion and cheese.
