Vary the spiciness of this cheesy beef and pork sausage dip by using the hotness of salsa that you like.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. ground hot Italian or pork sausage
  • Hot Velveeta Cheese (16 oz.)
  • 1 16 oz. jar of your favorite salsa (can use hot, medium, or mild)
  • bell pepper, chopped (to taste; optional)
  • onions, chopped (to taste; optional)
  • 2 tbsp. worchestershire sauce
  • pepper to taste
  • Tortilla chips (unsalted are best because this dip is pretty salty)

Method

1. Brown hamburger meat, sausage meat, onions, and bell pepper and drain off fat 2. Add worchestershire sauce and salsa and heat thoroughly 3. Cut cheese into chunks and drop into mixture a little at the time so that it melts slowly; stir constantly to keep from burning the cheese 4. When all ingredients are combined and heated through and through, transfer mixture to crock pot and keep on low setting to keep warm 5. Serve with tortilla chips

Notes: This is a good party item or just a good TV snack. It will stay warm in the crock pot, and the taste gets better the longer it stays heated as the flavors of the ingredients mix together and enhance each other. You can experiment with different kinds of salsa... use hot salsa for extra hot dip, or choose medium or mild for not so hot... use your imagination for variations - anything goes!
